Ladies, drop dependency syndrome; it is cheap

What you need to know:

  • Even for the working class, those women who earn six- and seven-digit salaries have tended to tighten their purse ropes as men open their wallets wider and wider.

Over centuries, women have looked upon men for many things. Religion has not been better at this socially unfit behaviour. Indeed, it has perpetuated the notion that women will always be dependent until death does them part.

Even for the working class, those women who earn six- and seven-digit salaries have tended to tighten their purse ropes as men open their wallets wider and wider.

For instance, if a man offers to buy lunch for a woman, she will order the most expensive meal and wine, not caring if the man has money or not.

Some will order what they cannot finish. The man will sit there watching her wolf the whole chicken plus some fries, like someone who has been rescued from a refugee camp.

Generally, the man may, according to the weight of his wallet, order a beer, a piece of roast beef, or goat meat, inwardly gauging his wallet. This, in my humble opinion, is cheap.

In this Bongo, I cannot remember hearing a woman offer to buy lunch for a man. Women forget that men will always fall for generous women.

She does not have to be Oprah Winfrey. No! The mere gesture of offering to reciprocate is very touching to a man and can persuade a man to open his wallet wider.

The misguided notion that offering sex, which is rampant in the minds of many women, is not actually enough. Women forget that, as I have always said before in this column, sex is readily available anywhere, at any time.

Empowerment is a fairy tale and non-existent if you, as a woman, are dying to drain his wallet to fill your tummy and dance to your tune. Do not believe that men are too stupid. They will drop you like a hot potato. He may be polite at that time, but remember that a man keeps tabs.

Another thing men hate with all their hearts—a habit that is very common with Tanzanian women—is that of rummaging through a man’s wallet when she thinks that he is not watching.

It does not matter whether the man is your boyfriend or husband. I have heard men complaining about this habit. Some go to the extent of peeling one or two banknotes, thinking that the man is fast asleep or too drunk to remember.

Men have little or no respect for the petty thievery or dependency exhibited by women.
