Sokoine waged tough war against economic sabotage: Mongella

Morogoro. Veteran politician Getrude Mongella has said former Prime Minister Edward Sokoine firmly fought against economic sabotage and promoted hardworking among Tanzanians.

She was speaking in Morogoro on Friday, April 12, 2019, during the commemoration of Sokoine.

She said Sokoine worked hard and provided administrative directives to leaders and citizens.

The minister for Education, Science, Technology and Vocational Training, Prof Joyce Ndalichako, said all schools would start providing education on agriculture to students who have failed to reach the level of university.

Speaking during the event, held at Sokoine University of Africulture (Sua), a student of Mafiga Secondary School in Morogoro, Kishosha Musa, asked the government to revive secondary schools that taught agricultural subjects.

He named them as Ruvu, Moshi and Kibiti.

Earlier, the Sua vice chancellor, Prof Raphael Chibunda, said the university had been annually commemorating Sokoine Day through debates and scientific exhibitions organised by students.

Former minister Paul Kimiti and Sua’s Prof Amon Matee and Dr Anna Temu were among key speakers during this year’s commemoration.

 Sokoine died on April 12, 1984 in a vehicle crash at Dakawa in Morogoro when he was returning to Dar es Salaam from Dodoma.
