500 plots allocated to Mirerani flood victims

The chairman of the Mirerani Town, Mr Adam Kobelo,

Mirerani. Mirerani Town Council in Simanjiro District, Manyara Region have allocated 500 plots to victims of recent floods.
They are now required to vacate from lowland to safe areas.
The chairman of the Mirerani Town, Mr Adam Kobelo, speaking on Tuesday, June 5, said those allocated with the plots were supposed to construct their houses within the period of six months to one year after the plots were allocated to them.
Mr Kobelo clarified that they would not allow the beneficiaries to sell their plots as their aim had been to ensure that the flood affected residents vacated from the lowlands.
"We saw it necessary to allocate plots to flood victims as well as to some people that had rented houses in lowlands so that the same people should not be affected by the same problem next year," said Mr Kobelo.
The deputy chairman of Mirerani Town’s committee for economy, works and environment, Mr Rajabu Msuya, explained that the issue of allocating plots to those in need had never happened before the establishment of the town authorities.
He said that they had countered various challenges including blame during the allocation of plots and that they were not worried because they were carrying out their responsibilities and it was not surprising that some would be agitated.
The chairman of Tunduru Street, Mr Christopher Chengula, said they had allocated plots to residents of all the areas affected by floods.
One of the residents of Mirerani Town, Ms Jacklin Momo, commended the local authorities for allocating plots to the food victims.
