Bunge swears in Mpango, Possi and 7 others as MPs

Dodoma. Nine new Members of Parliament were sworn in yesterday by Speaker Job Ndugai as the 300-plus member august house kicked off its second meeting yesterday.

Those sworn in included MPs elected in by elections in Lushoto, Ludewa, Masasi and Muheza constituencies, and those who were nominated into the house by President John Magufuli.

They were Dr Abdallah Possi, who was nominated by President magufuli and assigned the post of deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Office in charge of the Disabled.

Another was Prof Makame Mbarawa who has since also been appointed minister for Works, Transport and Communications.

Dr Phillip Mpango, who was nominated as an MP by President Magufuli before he also named him minister for Finance, completed the list of nominated MPs sworn in yesterday.

Mr Deogratias Ngalawa of CCM was sworn in as the new MP for Ludewa. He replaced Deo Filikunjombe who died in a grisly helicopter accident that occurred in Selou Game Reserve just days before the General Election.

Mr Godbless Lema, who was recently elected Arusha Urban MP on Chadema ticked was the sole MP from the Opposition sworn in yesterday. Election in the constituency was pushed back following death of ACT-Wazalendo candidate Estomih Mallah.

New Ulanga West MP Goodluch Mlinga (CCM) was also admitted yesterday. He replaced Celina Kombani, his mother, who died in India a few days before October elections.

Mr Omari Kigoda also replaced his father Abdallah Kigoda as Muheza Urban MP. The senior Kigoda died in India where he was undergoing treatment.

Mr Rashid Chuachua (CCM) was also sworn in as Masasi Urban MP after he was elected in a by election following the death of former NLD candidate in the constituency, Dr Emmanuel Makaidi.

Mr Shaaban Shekilindi was also admitted as Lushoto MP. The by election was arranged following the death in car accident of Chadema candidate Mohammed Mtoi.
