Babati. Chem Chem Safari Lodge, located in Babati District, Manyara Region, has won two major accolades at the 2024 World Travel Awards, being named both Tanzania’s Leading Luxury Safari Lodge and Africa’s Leading Luxury Safari Lodge.

The announcement was made during the awards ceremony held in Dar es Salaam—the first time the global tourism event has been hosted in Tanzania since its launch in 1993.

Speaking to journalists, Babati District Commissioner Emmanuela Kaganda Mtatifikolo and lodge manager Jorg Weytjens attributed the recognition to high service standards, discipline, teamwork, and strong community relations.

Located between Tarangire and Lake Manyara national parks, Chem Chem Safari Lodge operates within the Burunge Wildlife Management Area (WMA), offering guests an immersive experience close to wildlife.

Mtatifikolo said the lodge’s success also reflects the enabling business environment created under President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration, which continues to boost Tanzania’s global tourism appeal.

Weytjens noted that the lodge has hosted several high-profile guests and emphasised the importance of partnership between the hotel, local communities, and government institutions.

“We are committed to delivering top-quality service. Our staff are passionate and dedicated to making every guest feel welcome,” he said.

Lodge manager Elizabeth Wambui said the award fulfils the founders’ dream of offering world-class hospitality in Africa. Head chef Jimmy Ngira added that the lodge’s food has become a key attraction, further enhancing the guest experience.

This year, Tanzania won a total of 27 awards, including 11 by the government and 16 by the private sector, recognising excellence in hotels, tour companies, and national parks.
