An MP yesterday accused deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government ), Mr Aggrey Mwanri, of giving political answers in parliament.
Seemingly annoyed by the minister’s response on her supplementary question, Dr Mary Mwanjelwa (Special Seats-CCM) asked Mr Mwanri to refrain from giving political statements and focus on issuing satisfactory answers.
Dr Mwanjelwa was supporting a question by Mr Victor Mwambalaswa (Lupa-CCM), who wanted to know the outcome of investigation by a probe team in Chunya District that was tasked to investigate and give recommendations on the money that was alleged to been squandered by unscrupulous officials when purchasing subsidies for tobacco.
In his response, Mr Mwanri said he had a report indicating that Sh298.3 million was misappropriated and that the government refunded the money to tobacco farmers. The money according to him was for loans subsidies from CRDB Bank.
“We are still working on the report and we want to ensure that all officials who were involved in the scam faces the due process of the law.” But the answers from the deputy minister did not go down well with Dr Mwanjelwa, who insisted it had become the norm for ministers to give shallow political answers in Parliament.
