Iringa. Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has suspended an engineer and procurement officer of Kilolo District Council.

He has also ordered the immediate return of the former director of the council, who is retired, to answer allegations of embezzlement involving over Sh400 million that are unaccounted for.

The Prime Minister stated that Sh774 million were allocated for the construction of a dining hall at a special girls' school.

However, only Sh300 million has been used, with more than Sh400 million unaccounted for.

Additionally, Prime Minister Majaliwa has instructed the leadership of Kilolo District Council to immediately locate the contractor responsible for building the administration block to complete the installation of nets on the school’s administration building.

Prime Minister Majaliwa made these remarks shortly after laying the foundation stone for the construction of a special girls' school in Kilolo District. During his visit, he uncovered several issues and expressed dissatisfaction with the progress of the school's construction.

"You rushed the education officer (secondary) to handle the construction funds while you were alone, that is, the director, the procurement officer, and the engineer. I request the director to return and explain where the construction funds for the dining hall have gone," he questioned.

He said the construction of the dining hall began in August last year, but only 40 percent of the work has been completed, and the funds are already exhausted.
