Exim Bank Tanzania CEO Jaffari Matundu addresses employees during the bank’s 28th anniversary celebration at its headquarters in Dar es Salaam on August 15, 2025.
Dar es Salaam. Exim Bank Tanzania, one of the leading financial institutions in the region, is today celebrating its 28th anniversary under the theme, ‘28 Years of Progressing with You.’ The celebratory event, held at the bank’s head office Exim Tower in Dar es Salaam, brought together staff, management, and key stakeholders to reflect on the bank’s journey of innovation, growth, and customer-centric service since its inception in 1997.
The anniversary marks a significant milestone in the bank's journey from a single branch in Dar es Salaam to an international institution with a regional presence in the Union of Comoros, the Republic of Djibouti, and Uganda.
This continuous expansion is a testament to the bank's resilience and its unwavering commitment to its customers. The bank’s philosophy is captured by its core values: Flexibility, Reliability, Integrity, Professionalism, and a Drive for Customer Satisfaction.
In his address to the staff, Exim Bank CEO Jaffari Matundu highlighted the dual meaning of the anniversary theme. "The 'You' in this theme represents both our incredible staff, who are the heart and soul of this bank, and our customers, who trust us with their dreams, finances, and future," said Mr. Matundu. "As we celebrate 28 years, we are not just looking back at what we've built; we are looking forward to what we can still achieve together."
The past few years have seen massive innovative technological improvements in the transformation for Exim Bank Tanzania. These game-changing innovations includes the successful upgrade of its Core Banking System that has led to several groundbreaking services and expanded its physical presence to meet the evolving expectations of its customers.
Furthermore, Exim Bank Tanzania has introduced innovative financial services that truly progress with their customers. These include the new Lipa Chapchap service for merchants and the recently launched prestigious Elite Banking proposition, cementing its status as the most innovative bank in Tanzania.
The bank recently launched its ‘Kopa KiBoss na Wafanyakazi Loan’ campaign allowing public servants to access loans of up to TZS 200 million with a repayment period of up to 11 years, one of its kind among financial institutions in the country.
Mr. Matundu emphasised the importance of a forward-thinking mindset in an ever-evolving financial landscape. "With our new systems and technological innovations, our customers' expectations are higher than ever. It is our responsibility to anticipate their needs and continue to develop together - growing ourselves, our skills, and this bank into a future we can all be proud of."
As the bank looks to the future, its goals are clear: to continue growing, expanding its reach, and innovating to better serve its customers and contribute to the development of the financial sector.
The journey ahead is full of opportunities, and Exim Bank is confident it will continue to shine, innovate, and lead the way in redefining banking in Tanzania and the region. This celebration serves as a powerful testament to the bank's journey and its profound commitment to a brighter financial future for all.
