Former minister lands key position at TTCL

Former minister for Transport, Mr Omary Nundu,has appointed as new Tanzania Telecommunications Company Limited board chairman.

What you need to know:

  • Mr Nundu, who served as Tanga Urban MP between 2010 and 2015 before he was defeated by current Tanga legislator, Mr Mussa Mbarouk, replaces Prof Tolly Mbwete.
  • A statement released by Chief Secretary John Kijazi indicates that Mr Nundu’s appointment became effective on February 24.

Dar es Salaam. President John Magufuli has appointed the former minister for Transport, Mr Omary Nundu, the new Tanzania Telecommunications Company Limited board chairman.

Mr Nundu, who served as Tanga Urban MP between 2010 and 2015 before he was defeated by current Tanga legislator, Mr Mussa Mbarouk, replaces Prof Tolly Mbwete.

A statement released by Chief Secretary John Kijazi indicates that Mr Nundu’s appointment became effective on February 24.

He served as a Minister for Fransport from 2010 to 2012 when he was replaced by the current Minister for Constitutional and Legal Affairs Harrison Mwakyembe.

Before his appointment, Mr Nundu served as Tanzania Permanent Representative of Tanzania to International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Director of International Affairs, Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority, and Head of Civil Aviation Sector in the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

In another development, President Magufuli has sworn in four ambassadors who were appointed recently. The ambassadors who took the oath of office at the State House yesterday include, Dr Pindi Chana who will represent Tanzania in Nairobi, Kenya. Dr Chana replaces Mr John Haule, who has retired.

Other ambassadors, who were sworn in are: Mr Silima Kombo Haji, who becomes Tanzania first envoy to Sudan, and Mr Abdallah Abas Kilima, who replaces Mr Ali Ahmed Saleh as Tanzania ambassador to Muscat, Oman. Mr Saleh has retired.

The President also conducted the swearing-in of Ms Matilda Swila Masuka as the first Tanzanian ambassador to Seoul, South Korea.

In a similar development, Mr Thobias Andengenye was sworn in as Commissioner General of Fire and Rescue Force. He replaces Mr Pius Nyambacha who has retired.

The President also witnessed the new envoys and fire and commissioner taking the oath of allegiance before the Integrity Commissioner Judge Harold Nsekela.

The ceremony was also attended by Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa and several ministers.
