Dodoma. The government is considering to build a weighbridge in the Dodoma-Manyara road that passes through Kondoa as a way of ensuring its sustainability.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication Mr Joseph Nyamuhanga told a Parliamentary team on Sunday that the project is one of the strategies to protect the road whose construction is expected to be completed in October.
The Parliamentary Infrastructure Committee is on the visit to assess the implementation of the project.
"The weighbridge did not go simultaneous with the road construction but we noticed the need and we have started talking with the contractor to install it," Mr Nyamuhanga told the House team which was eager to know measures taken for sustainability of the road.
The road is part of the 12,000km Great North Road that stretches from Cape Town in South Africa to Cairo in Egypt.
About 1,500 kilometres of road are in Tanzania and Mr Nyamhanga said they are now almost all in tarmac.
