Mwanza. The Association of Private Health Facilities in Tanzania (Aphfta) has handed over medical equipment worth Sh20 million to 12 health centres in Mwanza Region.

The supplies include; hospital beds, examination tables, delivery kits, blood pressure machines and stethoscopes. Speaking while receiving the donation, acting Regional Administrative Secretary Ndaro Kurijila said the region is experiencing an acute shortage of medical equipment.

He outlined other challenges as understaffing and the shortage of drugs.

He called for other stakeholders to follow Aphta’s good example. “The death of mothers and babies reported in the region are caused by the lack of trained medical personnel at health care centres especially those located in rural areas,” said Mr Kurijila.
