The minister of State, the office of Prime Minister responsible for investments Angela Kairuki has encouraged women to exploit tendering opportunities available in district councils because it was mandatory.

Dar es Salaam. The minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Investment), Ms Angellah Kairuki, has encouraged women entrepreneurs to seize tender opportunities available at their local government authorities. The minister said women have an advantage of a preferential mandatory provision, which requires at least 30 per cent of the council’s procurement funds to be used for purchasing goods and services from women and youth.

Ms Kairuki made this remark during the Women Empowerment Forum Tanzania that was held over the weekend. It was attended by over 200 women, largely comprising entrepreneurs, motivators, leaders and professionals. “You should be inquisitive and follow up tenders in your respective district councils and apply for provision of goods and services,” she said, adding that the women could also visit the website of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (www.ppra.go.tz), which is the public finance expenditure oversight body. She said the government through her docket will ensure creation of conducive environment for business and investment in order to enable more women to improve their standards of living. She also noted that the governement will help tackle challenges facing women entrepreneurs like lack of land, capital and markets.
