Mobile shops capitalise on looming switch off

Tanzanians are starting to look for authentic mobile devices as fears of the fake phone switch off become a reality. 

What you need to know:

Supervisor of the Airtel shop at Mlimani City Gabriel Mvanda said that  since Monday large number of people have visited their shop for verification and purchase new phones. 

Dar es Salaam. Mobile Phone users flock to Mlimani City mobile phone shops to verify their mobile phones while others  purchase new phone as  the 24 hour count down to the  TCRA the fake phone switch off begins. 

 Customers, Barbara John and Neema Elnezer  at Tigo shop told this reporter they had to verify their phones to be sure.

 " They told me my phone is okay so at least I can be easy now," said Ms John

 Whereas Ms Elnezer had to buy a new phone after one of her two phone IMEI was confirmed to be fake.

 " I had to buy a new genuine phone through the promotion price at Sh22,000 but in 2014 I bought the fake phone for Sh60,000," she said.
