Bagamoyo. Agriculture and Livestock minister Luhaga Mpina has directed National Ranch Corporation (Narco) managing director Philemon Wambura to look for funds to completion of a modern abattoir in Ruvu Bagamoyo.
The minister issued the directive after Prof Wambura revealed that the implementation of the project had stopped over five years ago due to budget constraints.
Prof Wambura said the foundation stone for the project was laid down by former President Jakaya Kikwete in 2010.
According to him, a total of Sh10.7 billion was needed to fund the project.
He added that Sh2.7 billion has already been spent on it.
“We were forced to terminate a contract with a constructor in 2012 due to various reasons, which include financial difficulties,” he told the minister.
Responding to Prof Wambura, the deputy minister ordered Narco to mobilise resources in order to make sure that the project is implement as planned.
“I’m not pleased with your explanation. I want you to make sure that the project is implemented as planned. I want the implementation of the project to be completed before end of next year,” said Mr Mpina.
