Babati. Manyara Region Special Seats Member of Parliament (MP), Ms Martha Umbullah has asked the Ministry of health, community development, gender and children to award Merr Dispensary nurse in Babati District for saving lives of a mother and a child after delivery.

Ms Albina Tsere, a nurse at the dispensary located in Qameyu Ward, hired a motorbike to rush a woman and the newborn to Babati District Hospital, about 36 kilometres away, due to excessive post birth bleeding.

Speaking during the International Nurses Day on Saturday, celebrated in Bashnet Ward at the district level, Ms Umbullah said the Health minister, Ms Ummy Mwalimu should consider awarding Ms Tsere.

She said the incident was a national motivation which should be praised at the district and regional level.

"The world is supposed to know and recognize the good job done by our nurses,” she said.

The lawmaker, handed Ms Tsere a sum of Sh100,000, promising that she will invite her to the Parliament in Dodoma and introduce her to minister Mwalimu.

She also handed corrugated iron sheets to the nurse that was bought by her colleagues, honoring her for the commendable job.

Speaking during the event, Babati district chief nurse, Ms Mtawa Thea Funto hailed Ms Tsere for her courage to save lives, noting that calling for an ambulance was risky because it could have arrived late.

"You have become a hero because lives have been saved, but a commission of inquiry would have been formed if the duo would have died. Cars registered STK and SM would have arrived at the dispensary without considering difficulties you had faced,” she said.

With tears running down her cheeks, Ms Tsere thanked God that leaders and the community are appreciating her job, noting that the woman was received at the hospital end of last year at midnight.

“I thank God who has blessed them with good health. They are progressing well,” she said.
