Moshi. The Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) says it received initial information on 70 percent of grand corruption cases in Kilimanjaro Region from news reporters.

The statement was made by the former head of PCCB in Kilimanjaro Region, Mr Alex Kuhanda, when being presented with a certificate of recognition for his contribution. He was honoured by the Media Club of Kilimanjaro (Mecki).

Mr Kuhanda, who is named as the guru of investigating grand corruption big cases during his two years of leadership, has been transferred to Mara Region, swapping with Holle Makungu.

Cases he has investigated include a Sh2 billion embezzlement at Tanganyika Coffee Curing Company Ltd (TCCCO), embezzlements in cooperative unions and thefts in some councils.

Speaking during the event, Mr Kuhanda said as a civil servant in various regions, it was the first time for him to be honoured with a certificate for recognising his contribution.

“It is a new thing in my service as in the four regions I have served I have never witnessed this kind of incident. It is an historic event for journalists to recognise a contribution of an investigative agency,” he said.

Earlier, Mecki chairperson, Bahati Nyakiraria, thanked Mr Kahanda for forging close working relations with media fraternity when he was serving as PCCB boss in the Region.
