Zanzibar. Isles second Vice President Seif Ali Iddi has declared his intention to vie for House of Representatives seat for the newly announced Mahonda constituency.

He made the declaration shortly after the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) announced the decision to divide the former Kitope constituent, which he was serving, into two. The new constituency has been named Kiwengwa.

He was having discussions with members of Chama Cha Mapinduzi political committee in North Unguja Region whehn he made his intention known.

The decision by ambassador Iddi to contest the House of Representatives seat instead of a parliamentary seat was made easy by the committee members who expressed their satisfaction of his work in the last five years.

They asked him to choose what constituent he wanted to contest and what post he desired in either of the two areas of representation.

Mr Iddi said he would be more comfortable with Mahonda as Kiwengwa already has a serving representative, who might consider defending his seat.

He assured the members that if his party nominate him and he happens to win, he will continue with his plans to improve laboratories in all public secondary schools and other social services in the area.

Earlier, a committee member, Col (rtd) Juma Kassim Tindwa, advised his fellow CM members to continue respecting their top leaders when thinking of contesting for various elective posts. He noted that there were some CCM members who fail to show respect to their leaders who have spend their time and energy to serve the public.

Ambassador Iddi told the meeting that he had spent a total of Sh900 million he obtained from various sources for implementation of various development projects in Kitoe constituency in his tenure as MP. He also said he spent additional Sh130 million from the Constituent Development Fund also for development activities.
