Simai, who is seeking re-election under the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), drew cheers from party supporters as he pedalled to the venue
Unguja. It was a colourful display of party loyalty in Tunguu constituency on Wednesday September 3, as aspiring MP, Simai Mohammed Said arrived at the district offices of the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) on a CCM-branded bicycle to pick up his nomination forms.
Simai, who is seeking re-election under the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), drew cheers from party supporters as he pedalled to the venue, underscoring a campaign theme he later promised would be “civilised, people-centred and development-oriented.”
Speaking after receiving the forms, Simai pledged to focus on policies and constructive dialogue rather than divisive rhetoric. “We will run civilised and unique campaigns, going house to house to listen to citizens and encourage them to vote for CCM,” he said.
He stressed that peace and unity remain the foundation of Tanzania’s progress and that every individual has a responsibility to ensure the election process unfolds calmly without undermining social cohesion. “We want this year’s election to be free, fair and one that leaves a positive legacy for the nation,” he added.
Simai also thanked CCM leaders at the national, regional and district levels for endorsing his candidacy, as well as party members in Tunguu for their support.
He promised not to let them down, saying that if approved by ZEC and endorsed by voters, he would repay their trust by delivering development.

Elsewhere, other CCM aspirants collected their nomination papers while echoing the call for peaceful, policy-driven campaigns.
Mwera constituency candidate Mihayo Juma Suleiman urged citizens to remain calm and united as the election approaches, praising President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi for endorsing his candidacy. He pledged to adhere strictly to ZEC’s rules and regulations throughout the process.
In Kijiji constituency, aspirant Badria Natai Masoud said her mission was to unite the community without discrimination and ensure equal rights for all. “I will be for all people. Let us join hands, pool our strength and ensure the party wins—for the sake of our collective development,” she told supporters.
Meanwhile, Uzini aspirant Said Azana Hassan promised “clean politics,” focused on CCM’s manifesto and government achievements rather than insults. “We are ready to take our message to the people and highlight what CCM has already delivered through its government,” he said.
District election officials reminded candidates to carefully follow the procedures for filling out the nomination forms and return them within the required timeframes to give ZEC adequate room to review them.
