Tanzania’s power grid collapses, causes over 3 hour blackout

Dar es Salaam. Tanzania's national power grid on Thursday September 27, 2018 collapsed and caused power blackout for over 3 hours in regions connected to the national grid.

The country's Electric Supply Company Limited (Tanesco) said on Thursday that the interruption was due to technical faults, which occurred at around 1:42 pm.

 The statement, released by Tanesco’s Communications Unit said that the company’s technicians were working hard to restore the power to the affected regions.

 However, it was not disclosed exactly when the power interruption would be resolved.

 Dar es Salaam, the largest commercial city, was the most affected region.

 According to the Energy Access Situation Report 2016 released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the Rural Energy Agency (REA), Dar es Salaam has  the highest proportion of households connected to electricity of any form (75.2 per cent) followed by Njombe Region (50.5 per cent), Kilimanjaro (42.6 per cent) and Katavi (40.0 per cent).
