Tight security as police surround Gwajima’s church

Dar es Salaam. There is a heavy police presence at the Glory of Christ Church – Ufufuo na Uzima – owned by Kawe Member of Parliament and Bishop Josephat Gwajima, following the government’s decision to deregister the religious institution.

The entire church compound in Ubungo, Dar es Salaam, has been cordoned off with yellow police tape bearing black warning text, as more than 20 armed police officers maintain a strict security perimeter around the premises.

Several officers, dressed in full tactical gear, have been strategically positioned in the vicinity, enforcing the closure and limiting access to the site.

The action follows a government directive issued on Monday, 2 June 2025, which stated that the church had been deregistered after sermons delivered by Bishop Gwajima were found to contravene the legal framework governing the registration and conduct of religious organisations in the country.
