Dar es Salaam. Tanzania has today signed a Sh116 billion agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to finance Business Environment for the Jobs Development Policy Operation project.
The project is co-financed by the World Bank (WB) which has already signed a $8 million deal with the government.
Speaking after the singing ceremony with Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Planning Dr Servacius Likwelile, JICA’s Chief Representative in Tanzania, Mr Toshio Nagase said Japan- through JICA- is committed to helping the country build a better business and investment environment as well as in accelerating efforts to become an industrialised middle income country as envisaged in Vision 2025.
Speaking about the surrounding concerns of development partners' decision to cut financial aid, Mr Nagase said, “As far as I know, Japan and JICA have no such intentions. We are here to help the economy grow and we hope Tanzania will continue to be peaceful so that we could continue offering our support.”
The project involves a series of Development policies reforms which will remove critical business environment constraints in Tanzania especially in key job-creating industries and sectors.
