URUS Tanzania to showcase advanced livestock breeding technology

URUS Tanzania's Country Manager Edson Mfuru.

Dar es Salaam. As part of its commitment to enhancing the growth and productivity of Tanzania’s livestock sector, URUS Tanzania, a leading organization in animal genetics and cattle breeding, will present cutting-edge livestock breeding technology from the US and Brazil at the Nane Nane agricultural fair.

Tanzania, which boasts the second-largest livestock population in Africa, faces ongoing challenges despite its significant industry. The Livestock Sector Transformation Plan 2022/23-2026/27 highlights issues such as the low productivity of indigenous cattle varieties.

Mr. Edson Mfuru, URUS Tanzania's country manager, emphasized the importance of this initiative.

“Our participation in the Nane Nane exhibition across six regions is aimed at showcasing advanced breeding technology that can greatly improve livestock yields and overall productivity. By offering superior crossbreeding programs, we aim to produce high-quality daughters and bulls using our specialized semen,” Mfuru explained.

URUS Tanzania will be present at exhibitions in Dodoma, Mbeya, Morogoro, Kagera, Arusha, and Simiyu. This strategic presence is intended to support livestock keepers throughout the country by introducing innovations in breeding and genetics.

These advancements include hybrid varieties that offer enhanced resistance to diseases and parasites, leading to lower medical costs and mortality rates.

Mfuru encouraged livestock keepers and industry stakeholders to visit URUS pavilions at the fair to explore these new technologies.

“Our goal is to foster sustainable and profitable livestock farming operations. The improved resistance of hybrid varieties ensures a more stable and predictable production output,” he added.

By showcasing these advancements, URUS Tanzania aims to contribute to the long-term sustainability and success of Tanzania’s livestock sector.
