Dar es Salaam. The Mainland Tanzania NBC Premier League teams are now turning focus to the Azam Federation Cup after the NBC league first round ended on Wednesday.

Big guns Young Africans (Yanga), Azam FC and Simba are at the top three positions in the NBC league table. Yanga wound-up the round with a 2-0 away victory over Namungo FC at the Majaliwa Stadium in Lindi while Coastal Union finished the round by beating Singida Big Stars 2-1 at the Liti Stadium in Singida.

The league log shows that Yanga have maintained the league domination by finishing at the top in the first round.

The Jangwani Street men did the same last season despite having recorded less points this season.

Till the end of the first round, Yanga have managed to collect 38 points from 15 matches unlike last season when they collected 39 points from the same number of matches.

The league also shows that Azam FC and Simba have improved in chasing the title after having managed to reduce the point gap with Yanga when compared to last season. Azam FC are placed second with 35 points, three points less than Yanga’s. Simba sit in the third position with 34 points which is four points less than Yanga’s.

Statistics show that a total of 260 goals in the halfway of the NBC League have been scored, which is 32 more than last season’s 228 halfway scored goals.

Meanwhile, Yanga’s Fiston Mayele and Moses Phiri of Simba are locking horns in the golden boot award race after scoring 10 goals each.

Mayele did the same last season, but did not win the golden boot award at the end of the league. It was Geita Gold FC striker George Mpole, who did win the award.
