Dar es Salaam. Young Africans capped their season in a magnificent style after mauling Azam FC 3-1 to clinch the Federation Cup title at the National Stadium yesterday.

Amissi Tambwe, who is the 2015/16 Vodacom Premier League golden boot winner, hit a brace and Deus Kaseke added another to leave Azam players frustrated.

The victory meant that Yanga won all domestic competitions including the Charity Shield and Vodacom Premier League.

The Jangwani Street giants, who reached a milestone by storming the last eight of the Caf Confederation Cup, opened the season with a 8-7 shootout win over Azam last August and never looked back in the VPL.

Yanga earned Sh50 million for the win, taking their total of cash prize this season to Sh131m. They received some Sh81m winning the league.

Azam made a bright start to yesterday’s match with John Bocco, Farid Mussa and Ramashan Singano probing the Yanga goal with swift movements. However, the Hans van der Pluijm’s men bounced back in their usual rhythm and wasted no time in taking the lead.

The Burundian hot shot sent thousands of Yanga fans celebrating wildly after heading home a well-angled cross by defender Juma Abdul. Azam pressed for an equaliser, but the Yanga defence marshalled by Kevin Yondani averted all dangerous moves and at the break, the scoreboard read 1-0 in favour of the latter. The Chamazi-based outfit came in the second energetically and Bocco should have levelled the score in the 46th minute, but he was denied by goalie Deo Munishi.

Tambwe scored his second of the evening a minute later, this time around, converting off Simon Msuva’s pass. Substitute Didier Kavumbangu reduced the deficit in the 48th minute, slamming home from a cheeky Singano’s pass.

With Azam hoping to equalise, Kaseke broke Azam hearts with a powerful shot that went past goalkeeper Aishi Manula. Manula was declared the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
