Chama’s Yanga SC future in doubt as contract talks stall

Dar es Salaam. The future of Zambian attacking midfielder Clatous Chama at Young Africans SC (Yanga) hangs in the balance as his current contract nears its end with no agreement yet reached between the two parties.

Chama, who shocked fans at the beginning of the season by making a surprise switch from Yanga's arch-rivals Simba SC, signed a one-year contract with the Jangwani Street outfit.

Since his arrival, the 32-year-old playmaker has been a vital part of the team, especially in their CAF Champions League campaign, where he featured in eight matches and scored two goals.

Despite his contributions on the pitch, negotiations for a contract extension have hit a deadlock. According to a reliable source within the club, Yanga have offered Chama a new deal.

However, the Zambian international and his management have yet to respond positively.

The source revealed that the sticking point in the negotiations is the financial package. Chama is reportedly demanding package similar to what he received when he first joined Yanga from Simba SC, a package that Yanga now find difficult to match.

“Chama wants the same package Yanga paid him when he crossed over from Simba. However, the club feels that it is unsustainable and has instead offered a reduced deal,” the source said.

This financial disparity has placed Chama at a crossroads—either accept a lower offer and stay at Yanga or explore other options, including a possible return to Simba SC.

“Yanga have done their part by tabling a new offer. Now the ball is in Chama’s court. He must choose whether to compromise and stay or move on,” added the source.

There are growing rumours that Chama is seriously considering a return to Simba SC, a club where he spent a successful stint from the 2018/2019 season until his transfer to Yanga. During his time with Simba, Chama was a fan favourite and played a pivotal role in the club’s domestic and continental success.

Should he opt to leave, Chama's departure would be a significant blow to Yanga, especially considering his leadership, creativity, and experience on the field.
