Fabian Nelson wins gold medal in 10km race

Karatu. Fabian Nelson of CCP Club yesterday emerged winner in the Karatu Sports Festival after beating more than 100 competitors.

Nelson clocked 30:46:24 to bag Sh200,000. Gabriel Gerald of Talent Club became the first runner up with a timing of 30:51:59 to earn Sh150,000. Emmanuel Giniki of Hanang Club became the second runner up, clocking at 31:01:9.

“I am very happy to have won the event. It was very competitive but I thank God I became the winner,” said Nelson.

Arusha Region became the overall winner after claiming 14 top positions in athletics, football, cycling and volleyball.

Arusha-based professional cyclist, Richard Lizer won the men’s 60-kilometre event after he clocked 1:40:17.22.

Thomas Holder, also of Arusha, became second, clocking 1:0:17.

Hamis Hussein came third at 1:41:49:59. In the women’s discipline, Anna Maria Griffioen, Sofia Hussein, Sofia Adio and Jamila Jumanne won the first second third and fourth places to earn cash prizes in the 30-kilometre women’s discipline In the women’s five-kilometre race, Angelina Tsere of Arusha emerged winner at 17:34:48. Failuna Abdi came second at 17:38:66 despite being title favourite. She led from the word go to the finish but was overtaken by Tsere hardly a metre before the finish line.

In Football, Karatu emerged winner, beating Eyasi 3-0 in the final to earn jerseys net and balls while Eyasi won jerseys, 55 balls with Mbulumbulu finishing the third place

In Volleyball, KKKT won the title.

The festival was organised by the Filbert Bayi Foundation (FBF) and sponsored by the Olympic Solidarity through the Tanzania Olympic Committee.
