The upcoming EXCO meeting adds to Tanzania’s recent record of successfully hosting major continental football events.
Dar es Salaam. Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) president Wallace Karia has said the Confederation of African Football’s (Caf) decision to convene its Ordinary Executive Committee (EXCO) meeting in Tanzania has significantly strengthened the country’s preparations to co-host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in 2027.
Tanzania will host the prestigious tournament alongside Kenya and Uganda under the joint Pamoja Bid, marking East Africa’s first time to stage Africa’s flagship football competition.
The high-level CAF EXCO meeting, chaired by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe, is scheduled for Friday at the Hyatt Regency Dar es Salaam.
It will bring together Africa’s top football decision-makers to deliberate on key administrative, developmental and strategic issues shaping the future of the game on the continent.
Karia described the hosting of the CAF Executive Committee meeting as a strong vote of confidence in Tanzania’s leadership, political stability and organisational capacity, noting that it comes at a crucial stage of AFCON 2027 preparations. “We are proud to see Tanzania selected to host such an important CAF meeting.
This is the first time the CAF Executive Committee is being held in our country, and it reflects the growing trust the African football leadership has in Tanzania,” said Karia.
He added that the meeting goes beyond its formal agenda, serving as a powerful motivation as the country intensifies its countdown to the 2027 finals.
“This is more than just a meeting. It inspires our Afcon 2027 preparations and reinforces our belief that Tanzania is on the right path. It shows that we are capable not only of hosting matches, but also of hosting high-level decision-making forums for African football,” he said.
The upcoming EXCO meeting adds to Tanzania’s recent record of successfully hosting major continental football events.
In August 2022, Dar es Salaam staged the 44th CAF Ordinary General Assembly, which received widespread praise for its organisation and hospitality.
Karia noted that Tanzania’s peaceful environment, political stability and renowned hospitality continue to position the country as a preferred destination for continental and international football engagements.
“Tanzania is increasingly becoming a hub for CAF activities. This speaks volumes about our peace, improving infrastructure and welcoming culture. It is something we are proud of as a nation,” he said.
The presence of Caf’s top leadership is also expected to create valuable opportunities for engagement, knowledge-sharing and collaboration as Tanzania accelerates its AFCON 2027 preparations, particularly in infrastructure development, governance and major event management.
