The Mainland giants, sitting fourth in the league table with 22 points after 10 games, confront Toto African in the Premier League match in Mwanza tomorrow.

Dar es Salaam. Simba SC head coach Dylan Kerr has championed the Msimbazi Reds as genuine contenders for the Mainland Premier League title.

The Mainland giants, sitting fourth in the league table with 22 points after 10 games, confront Toto African in the Premier League match in Mwanza tomorrow.

Speaking ahead of the match, Kerr said they will take the tie as seriously as a cup final.

He said irrespective of the fact that Toto African are among the less fancied outfits in the top flight, the the Msimbazi Street team would not underrate them.

“They didn’t earn promotion to the Premier League by mistake, that says a lot about Toto as a team,” he said.

The Briton said his players were in high spirits, raring to turn tables on the Mwanza team.

“For us it’s a big game. Let’s not forget it’s still early in the season. We know our position at the end of the season will depend on how well we do in the games like this one,” he said.

A win for Kerr’s men in what promises to be a tricky assignment would enable them to remain in the touching distance of the leaders Young Africans and second-placed Azam FC.

Defending champions Yanga bounced back to the helm of the league with a slim but vital 1-0 win over African Sports in Tanga on Wednesday.

They top the 16-team league table with 27 points from 11 outings, a point ahead of their nearest challengers Azam FC. Mtibwa Sugar are third on 23 points.

But Simba will be unfortunate to miss the services of evergreen forward Mussa Hassan Mgosi and Justice Majavbi.

The duo will miss the clash because of what Kerr described as unavoidable reasons.

He said that Mgosi would join the team in Shinyanga next week.
