Simba: Why we still need Kichuya

Dar es Salaam. Simba’s attacking midfielder Shiza Kichuya has extended his stay at the Msimbazi Street club by penning a two-year deal.

Kichuya renewed his contract with the Mainland champions on Saturday night, sources within the club confirmed yesterday.

The sources said the Msimbazi Reds were keen to retain their top players for future assignments.

“We have renewed Kichuya’s contract by offering him a two-year deal,” the source, who declined to be named, said, clearing the controversy that had surrounded the player’s fate.

This comes only days after reliable sources revealed that DR Congo’s TP Mazembe were keen on signing Kichuya following his impressive performances for his club and the national soccer team, Taifa Stars. Reports making rounds from DR Congo claim that TP Mazembe officials, who are believed to be longtime admirers of the player, were in attendance during a friendly match between Stars and DR Congo early this year.

In the game, which the Stars won 2-0, Kichuya created the opening goal for Mbwana Samatta before scoring four minutes to the final whistle.

Kichuya, who joined Simba from Mtibwa Sugar two years ago, was heading into the final days of his contract and was free to discuss terms with other clubs.

In his two seasons at Simba, he scored 19 or so goals and assisted 12.

He also won the FA Cup last season with the Msimbazi Reds, scoring the winning goal in extra time against Mbao FC in the final at the Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma.

Simba and TP Mazembe have a good relationship when it comes to players transfers.

In 2011, TP Mazembe recruited Simba’s ace striker Mbwana Samatta, who went on to win the Caf Champions League with the club.
