Unguja. ACT-Wazalendo national chairperson Othman Masoud Othman has urged party members, supporters, and citizens to turn out in large numbers for advance voting scheduled for October 28, before the General Election on October 29.
Speaking in North Pemba Region on Thursday, September 4, 2025, Mr Othman, who also serves as Zanzibar’s First Vice President, criticised the decision to allocate two voting days for Zanzibar, describing it as a ploy to manipulate the electoral process.
“Let us go in large numbers to accompany voters, and we too must cast our votes on those days. There is no justification for Zanzibar to have two election days. This is a malicious plan by the authorities to rig the polls, and it is unacceptable,” he said, adding that the law underpinning the arrangement lacks legitimacy.
For his part, ACT-Wazalendo’s Deputy Chairperson for Zanzibar, Mr Ismail Jussa Ladhu, commended party leaders and members in North Pemba Region, whom he described as courageous and committed to the country’s democratic aspirations.
He urged members and supporters to maintain unity and solidarity as the October polls draw closer, despite intimidation or attempts to weaken their resolve.
“The coming General Election is crucial, as it carries our mission to rescue the nation. We must remain steadfast,” he said.
The meeting was attended by several senior party officials, including the Deputy Secretary General for Zanzibar, Omar Ali Shehe, and regional chairpersons for Wete and Micheweni, Juma Khamis Ali (Kabakaba) and Rashid Khalid.
Following the event, Mr Othman visited elderly community members in Wete town, including Sheikh Omar Hamad Ali, Dr Issa Said (a member of the ACT-Wazalendo Board of Trustees), and Rashid Hamad Othman.
