Zanzibar to receive first chartered tourist flight from Lisbon

Unguja. Zanzibar is set to receive first direct chartered tourist flight from Portugal on Monday, July 31 with 288 passengers on board, it has been revealed.

A high level team from the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar was in Lisbon to broker the deal that will see at total of Seven chartered direct flights come to Zanzibar straight from Lisbon with the first set to arrive on Monday, July 31.

The team which is led by Minister for tourism and heritage Simai Mohammed Said and Chairman for Zanzibar Commission for Tourism, Rahim Bhaloo have for the last few months been working closely with tour companies Solferias and Sonhando and will fly their maiden journey on HiFly Flight using Airbus A330.

Speaking to the Citizen, the minister said they were in Lisbon to promote Tanzania and Zanzibar as a destination with the aim of attracting high profile visitors.

“Lisbon is a hub for the Portuguese speaking countries, thus the new visitors will become our ambassadors across the globe, which will give us the opportunity to break into the South American markets also.” Said Mr Simai Mohamed Said

HiFly will operate weekly chartered flights, the first departing Lisbon on July 30, arriving on Monday at 0945Hrs and depart 2320Hrs and the delegate from Zanzibar being part of it.
