Korea is keen to help developing countries learn how it transformed its economy from a “basket case” to one of the highly innovative countries in the world in a span of five decades.

“If Tanzania government asks us to help in industrial strategy through customized solutions, we are ready to help,” Kyusik Suh, director of International Economic Cooperation Strategy Division at the Korea’s ministry of Finance and Strategy said recently.

Tanzania is in the middle of an industrialization journey that seeks to reduce reliance on imports as well as adding value to the vast natural resources that country has. The country also seeks to modernize through adoption of new technologies and innovation. But inadequate financial resources and technological know-how have proved a significant road-block.

On the other hand Korea is now seeking to become one of the first to enter the 4th industrial revolution.

To achieve that status the country has embarked on the innovative growth strategy that would position the Korean economy to take advantage of Hyper-connected Intelligent Infrastructure that is characteriesed by big data, artificial intelligence, 5G networks and Internet of Things (IOT).

The innovative growth strategy would also be powered by Smart Transportation as well as Industrial Foundation that will be characterized by intelligent semi-conductors, advanced materials, Innovative medicine and new and renewable energy.

All this is set to help Korea create a platform for producing technologies that is people centred.
