Dar es Salaam. The chairman of the Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CTI), Mr Subash Patel, has challenged the government to create an enabling environment, a move that will help attract more foreign investors in key sectors, industry, in particular.
The CTI chairman made the remarks when addressing participants at the second round of the Mwananchi Thought Leadership Forum, which deliberated on Tanzania's industrialisation agenda held on Thursday, October 4, 2018 in Dar es Salaam.
The colourful event was graced by the Industry, Trade and Investment minister, Mr Charles Mwijage.
"I am puzzled when I see foreign investors sail through the Indian Ocean to Kenya and start investments. We should create conducive conditions that will attract them to invest in Tanzania,” said Mr Patel.
"There are potential investment opportunities in Tanzania, but we now need to change our mindset, which is the biggest hurdle," he added.
Mr Patel further challenged the government to utilize natural resources such as coal, water and gas to generate sufficient power to ensure sustainable access of power for all.
"Power supply in the country isn't encouraging, despite having sufficient natural resources such as coal, water and gas, potential for generating power," he said.
The event was broadcast live through ITV Tanzania and Radio One and streamed by the Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL) YouTube channel.
The forum brought together experts, stakeholders and ordinary Tanzanians for a dialogue that sought to explore opportunities, challenges and suggest solutions, which will be pertinent to the industrialisation drive.
