Dar, Zanzibar face power cuts

Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar will face inadequate power supply due to maintenance of three power generation plants at Ubungo II and Songas stations.

Dar es Salaam. Residents of Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar will face power outage due to maintenance activities of three power generation machines at Ubungo II and Songas stations.

The exercise will go together with the installation of a 300 MVA transformer at Ubungo power generation station to increase power supply capacity in order to meet increased demand.

A public notice issued on Saturday, February 16, 2019, by the Tanzania Electric Supply Company Ltd (Tanesco) communications unit says the maintenance of the plants will be completed in June.

“Technicians from Siemens Company of Sweden will carry the maintenance that will involve changing spare parts to increase efficiency of plant operations in the company’s efforts to improve access of power to Dar es Salaam, Coast regions and Zanzibar,” reads part of the notice.

Furthermore, the national power utility assured residents in the aforementioned areas of availability of power, but disclosed that there will be minor power cuts.

 “Ubungo II and Songas machines have been connected to 132 kilovolt system, which supplies electricity to Dar es Salaam, Coast Region and Zanzibar,” reads another part of the statement.
