Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Forest Services (TFS) Agency says it has installed a plant for processing honey products in Manyoni District, Singida Region. According to TFS, the plant has a capacity of producing 500 litres of honey per day.

TFS said the honey processing plant, which has cost Sh80 million, is expected to get rid of the problem of poor quality of honey and wax in the central regions.

Acting TFS manager Tulizo Kilaga said the plant has been installed at the TFS honey factory in Manyoni District, explaining that beekeepers were also allowed to process their honey products.

He points out that the installed plant will, to a large extent, depend on raw materials from the Aghondi forest found in Itigi.

The TFS official said they have managed to harvest 6,175kgs of honey from 459 beehives out of 729. He said the harvested honey was equivalent to 6.175 tonnes of the product and averagely 13.45kgs of the same per beehive.
