Dar es Salaam. The business community in Tanzania under the umbrella of the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) over the weekend showcased the country’s potential investment opportunities to their US counterparts.
The visiting US trade and business delegation from Minnesota led by Keith Ellison, the US Representative for Minnesota’s 5th congressional district, serving since 2007, was impressed to learn that Tanzania stood to benefit through investments in areas ranging from mining, infrastructure, tourism to information and communications technology.
Some of the speakers at the business dinner hosted by the TPSF appreciated measures being undertaken by the government in making the investment environment more conducive. But they said it should do more to make the investment atmosphere even more accommodative.
At the end of the business talks that lasted more than three hours, both business delegations from Tanzania and the US concluded that time was ripe for doing serious business in Tanzania.
“Tanzania has a long legacy of peace. The country is endowed with tremendous resources. It has a coastline with gas and oil resources. Its tourism is among the best in the world,” said Congressman Ellison.

Congressman Ellison added: “We have many things to offer and there are many things to receive from you. We want to explore the opportunity to develop not only in business but also in human relationship.”
Mr Reginald Mengi, the TPSF chairman, said there was much negative perception about Tanzania when it came to doing business.
“My hope is that we shall be able to tell you the truth tonight,” he said.
