Tanzania to give Kenya 500 doctors

A statement issued by the State House said President Dr John Magufuli declared Tanzania readiness to send the doctors during talks with a contingency of Kenya ministry health officials sent by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Dar es Salaam. Tanzania has accepted a request by Kenya to send 500 medical doctors who will help the country mitigate effects of medic’s strike which has persisted for over three months now.

A statement issued by the State House said President Dr John Magufuli declared Tanzania readiness to send the doctors during talks with a contingency of Kenya ministry health officials sent by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The team leader, who is also Kenya minister for health, Dr Cleopa Mailu, told President Magufuli that the strike notwithstanding the country was facing shortage of medical personnel.

He said they have realised that the problem cannot be solved depending doctors who study within the country and sourcing the services abroad has been seen as short term solution to the problem.

Another member of the team, Mr Jack Ranguma, said Kenya was ready to pay 500 doctors and provide them with houses.

The minister for Health and community Development, Ms Ummy Mwalimu, said during the meeting that her ministry was ready to send the doctors as it has many good unemployed doctors at the moment.

“Let me appeal to all doctors in the country who have no job at the moment to apply fpor these posts,” she said.
