Local experts for SGR system undergo training

Dar es Salaam. The fourth batch of engineers to work on the standard gauge railway (SGR) is undergoing training in a plan to equip them with skills for job.
The trainees started their six weeks modules in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday and will later do their practical in Turkey.
Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) is engaged in a series of trainings, including in China, for its workers as it prepares to enter a new era of its systems operations at the end of the year for the Dar es Salaam-Morogoro section.
TRC executive director Masanja Kadogosa launched the training on rolling stock and locomotive maintenance which he said were most critical parts of the new railway system.
“Already, experts from Turkey have arrived in the country to conduct training of the local experts,” he said, noting 60 of them have since been trained out of a target of 167 experts.
Mr Kadogosa said construction of the Dar es Salaam – Morogoro SGR section has reached 45.8 per cent while the Makutoporo-Tabora section stands at 7 per cent.
Tanzania signed an agreement with Turkish and Portuguese firms to construct the Dar es Salaam- Morogoro stretch at Sh2.7 trillion.
