The WHC chief excutive officer (CEO), Dr Fred Msemwa said here yesterday that completition of the 40 houses is a landmark acheivement for the two-year old institution.

Morogoro. Watumishi Housing Company (WHC) offcially put 40 housing units on sale here yesterday, raising hope of access to decent accomodation facilities for some public servants.

The sale comes after completition of the construction exercise in a project where a total of 70 housing units will be built at Mkundi area along Morogoro-Dodoma highway.

The WHC chief excutive officer (CEO), Dr Fred Msemwa said here yesterday that completition of the 40 houses is a landmark acheivement for the two-year old institution.

“We know that we carry on our shoulders high hopes of thousands of public servants who are craving for descent homes to be acquired on affordable rates. This is why upon being launched in late 2013, we immediately started planning and executing affordable housing projects accross the country in which the Mkundi project whose houses are on sale now became the first ever WHC undertaking,” said Dr Msemwa as he briefed the Morogoro Regional Commissioner (RC), Dr Rajabu Rutengwe, at an event to offcially announce the sale yesterday.

To keep construction costs low, Mkundi houses have been built on an in-house project model whereby WHC - which holds a Class Six license as a registered Contracrtor - used own staff, engineers and other building experts to undertake the project. There are six two-bedroom units with an area of 60 square metres and some three-bedroom units each with a built area of 85 square metres as well as three-bedroom units which have an area of 115 square metres each.

The two-bedroom units go for Sh33.729 million while the two sets of three-bedroom units go for Sh47.203 and Sh59.153 million for the 85 square meters and 115 square metres respectively. The prices are exclusing of Value Added Tax.

Upon completition of the remaining 30 units, the company will conduct the second phase of the construction

Speaking at the event, Dr Rutengwe hailed WHC for completing the Mkundi housing project on time and selecting Morogoro Municipal and the region in general as the first area to launch its nation-wide drive to construct decent, modern yet affordable houses for public servants.

He further ordered District Councils in the region to allocate land for WHC to undertake construction of the affordable houses for public servants.
