Port Louis pledges stronger business relations with Dar

Dar es Salaam. Mauritius has embarked on strategies to improve trade with Tanzania.Mauritius will promote tourism between the two nations and attract Mauritian investors in agribusiness in Tanzania.
That was said by the honorary consul of Mauritius to Tanzania , Mr Abbas Rizvi.
Mauritius, which - at over $15,591 in 2012, has one of the highest per capita gross domestic products in Africa – will also promote information and communication technology in both countries.
Port Louis seeks to establish Air Mauritius offices in Dar es Salaam and introduce feeder vessels from Mauritius to the Dar es Salaam Port. It also envisages to open banks in Dar es Salaam.
“These are some of the commercial, economic, social, political, scientific and cultural activities that will be carried out by Mauritius Consulate in Tanzania,” Mr Rizvi told journalists in Dar es Salaam early this week.
To begin with, the consulate will establish the Tanzania- Mauritius Business Council in Tanzania.
“While in Tanzania, Mauritians will embark on large-scale commercial farming along with contract farming and agro processing, among others…. we will help investors from Mauritius to meet their expectations in Tanzania,” he said.
On tourism, the plan is for Mauritius to promote tourism potentials in both countries. “This will help people to understand what Tanzania and Mauritius have to offer,” he said.
Tourism, which recently surpassed gold to become Tanzania’s number one foreign exchange earner, is also a leading economic activity in the middle-income highly diversified economy of Mauritius.
