Dar es Salaam. Vodacom Tanzania has emerged as the strongest performer within the Vodacom Group’s African operations, as the company marked its 25th anniversary with a set of results for the year ended March 31, 2025.

The company’s latest Annual Integrated Report shows service revenue grew by 20.5 percent, cement-ing Tanzania’s role as a key growth engine for the multinational telecoms group. This expansion was driven by a 15.7 percent increase in the customer base, alongside a surge in demand for data and mo-bile money services.

Mobile data revenue rose by 21.6 percent, reflecting the country’s growing appetite for internet ser-vices, while M-Pesa revenue climbed by 29.3 percent, reinforcing its role as a financial lifeline for mil-lions of Tanzanians.

Figures from the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) show Vodacom leads the market with a 32.1 percent share of the 92.7 million registered SIM cards. It also holds a 32.8 percent share of mobile internet users and a dominant 40.4 percent in mobile financial services.

Across the Vodacom Group’s International Business segment—which includes operations in Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Lesotho and others—service revenue grew by 7.1 percent. While markets such as South Africa and Kenya posted growth of 2.3 percent and 10.5 percent respectively, Tanzania stood out with its double-digit gains. The DRC followed at 8.2 percent.

Vodacom Tanzania PLC managing director Philip Besiimire attributed the company’s success to sus-tained investment and customer-focused innovation.

“Our results clearly demonstrate the strength of our strategy and the dedication of our team here in Tanzania,” he said.

“We are incredibly proud to be a significant growth engine for the Vodacom Group, showcasing the country’s immense potential and readiness to embrace digital innovation,” he added.

According to him, Vodacom’s continuous investment in network expansion—including advanced 4G and rapidly expanding 5G coverage—together with new digital and financial solutions, was fuelling deeper inclusion in the digital economy.

“Tanzania’s digital journey is accelerating, and Vodacom is committed to being at the forefront of this transformation,” he said.
