Mwanza. The Alliance for Democratic Change (ADC) has announced that it will officially launch its national campaign for the 2025 General Election on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Pasiansi Bus Terminal grounds in Ilemela District, Mwanza Region, while stressing that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must ensure the process is free and fair.

Speaking on Friday, September 5, 2025, in Ilemela, the party’s Director of Planning and Elections, Mtoro Mvunye, said the choice of Mwanza was deliberate because of the region’s political, economic, and security challenges.

“The National Executive Committee agreed that Mwanza is the right place to showcase our strength. It is a region with major challenges and stiff competition, so starting here sends a strong message that ADC is ready to compete anywhere and with full force,” he said.

He explained that preparations were nearly complete, with invitations extended to social groups, religious and political leaders, and associations for persons with disabilities.

The launch will also feature performances by Bongo Flava artistes and traditional dance troupes.

Mvunye said the party’s presidential candidate, Wilson Elias Mulumbe, will address citizens directly, outlining the vision and direction of the manifesto.

“Our manifesto covers all the key areas of Tanzanians’ lives. Our candidate will explain clearly what he intends to deliver if entrusted with leadership. This message will show the difference between ADC and other political parties,” he said.

To ensure a level playing field before, during, and after the polls, he stressed the need for transparency and credibility, warning that ADC expects INEC to set an example.

“We are heading into an election that, for us, goes beyond votes and victory. It would be extremely disheartening, after spending heavily on rallies and campaigns, to see the process end in confusion, violence, or violations of rules,” he cautioned.

Mvunye emphasised that ADC expects constitutional reforms and the establishment of an independent commission to be reflected in practice during the polls.

“After constitutional amendments and the creation of an independent body, Tanzanians want to see a real difference from the past. We demand that INEC act fairly and guarantee a level political field between the ruling party and the opposition,” he said.

He added: “Citizens must be free to choose leaders of their choice without manipulation, threats, or schemes of any kind.”

Mr Mvunye stressed that if the commission manages the process with integrity, ADC’s chances of winning across the presidency, parliamentary, and council levels remain strong, given the wide public support the party enjoys.

Itutu seeks the Ilemela parliamentary seat

Mr Mvunye also revealed that during the launch, ADC national chairman Itutu Shaban Haji will formally present himself as the party’s parliamentary candidate for Ilemela Constituency.

He described Itutu as a politician known for his influence and firm stance against corruption and irresponsible leadership, expressing confidence that the people of Ilemela would entrust him with their mandate.

“Itutu is a true patriot of Mwanza Region and Ilemela Constituency. He has always been a thorn in the side of corrupt leaders,” Mvunye said.

He added, “He will present his development agenda to the people, and we believe without doubt that citizens will accept him.”
