Juba-bound plane carrying American soldiers crash-lands on Ugandan road

The ill-fated plane had eight American military personnel on board when it was forced to land in the middle of the Mityana highway after running out of fuel.

Mityana, Uganda. Business was brought to a standstill Friday when a plane carrying US marines ran out of fuel and crash-landed in the middle of the road at Kiwawu in Uganda.

The N604 AR Piper aircraft had to make an emergency landing in Mityana – a town some 67 kilometres west of the Ugandan capital of Kampala.

Police spokesman Philip Mukasa said the plane, which was supposed to fly to Juba, South Sudan, had to turn around and head back to Uganda’s Entebbe International Airport after its engine stalled.

The ill-fated plane had eight American military personnel on board when it was forced to land in the middle of the Mityana highway after running out of fuel.

"The pilot made an emergency landing and it was in the middle of the road," Mukasa told Associated Press. "They are all safe and no one is injured.

Mityana Resident District Commissioner Joel Walusimbi confirmed the incident saying: “The pilot had to land in the middle of the road.”

No casualties were reported.
