Kampala. Pastor Patience Kokundeka Museveni Rwabwogo, daughter of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni, has been consecrated as an Episcopal Bishop of Covenant Nations Church in Uganda and beyond.
The consecration took place on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Covenant Hill in Maya, Wakiso District, during celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of Covenant Nations Church, which she founded two decades ago as a small house fellowship.
The ceremony marked a milestone in Uganda’s Christian community, with Rwabwogo becoming the first woman to be consecrated to the office of bishop in Uganda, according to Ugandan media reports.
The consecration was led by Chief Consecrator Bishop Dr LaDonna Osborn, with Archbishop Moses Odongo and Bishop Joshua Lwere serving as co-consecrators. Rwabwogo received her certificate and Bible during the ceremony and was presented with traditional episcopal symbols, including a mitre, staff, ring, cross and clerical garments.
President Museveni and First Lady Janet attended the ceremony, alongside Vice President Jessica Alupo, government officials, religious leaders and other dignitaries.
In his remarks, President Museveni praised his daughter’s commitment to Christian ministry and said her elevation was a significant moment for the family. He also reflected on his own family’s religious history, noting that his father, Mzee Amos Kaguta, was the first member of the family to join the Church in 1947.
Museveni said he had been impressed by his daughter’s knowledge of the Bible after reading some of her writings.
“I thank God for having a whole bishop now,” he said, according to the Daily Monitor.
The President also called on religious leaders to ensure that the Church responds to practical social needs, including helping the sick, feeding the hungry and supporting communities.
Family milestone
For First Lady Janet Museveni, the occasion also marked a personal moment of thanksgiving following her recent health difficulties.
Speaking during the service, she thanked God for her recovery and credited prayers from Ugandans and other Christians for supporting her during her illness. She also expressed joy over her daughter’s consecration, describing it as a great honour for the family.
Rwabwogo’s husband, Odrek Rwabwogo, has also been involved in the ministry. The couple have worked in Christian ministry for two decades, with Covenant Nations Church expanding from its early beginnings into a wider ministry.
The consecration was attended by prominent international Christian leaders, including Nigerian pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye and his wife, Folu Adeboye, of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
Bishop Osborn urged the newly consecrated bishop and other church leaders to use their positions to contribute to social transformation, saying religious leadership should extend beyond preserving institutions to serving communities.
As part of the family celebrations, President Museveni said he and the First Lady presented Rwabwogo with 50 cows to mark her elevation to the episcopal office.
