Power goes off twice while Kenyan President Ruto is issuing a speech

President William Ruto of Kenya was forced to deliver his speech in darkness on Thursday after two power outages at the closing stages of the National Executive Retreat in Naivasha.

Ruto was addressing Cabinet Secretaries and explaining his government's agenda and why he chose them to help him deliver his mandate when the lights went off.

The Head of State could be heard struggling to deliver his speech momentarily before the lights were restored.

The incident occurred twice within five minutes, with the second one occurring just as he was about to end his speech.

However, despite being interrupted twice, Ruto did not comment on the matter but instead proceeded to complete his speech.

This comes amid complaints over frequent power outages in various parts of the country, forcing Kenyans to resort to alternative means of power supply.

Kenyans on X (formerly known as Twitter) reacted wildly to the incident, with many left bewildered that a power blackout could occur at a time when the entire cabinet was gathering at the same spot and with their boss (President Ruto) present.

Reacting to the incident, sports journalist Saddique Shaban wrote, "The shame awaiting this country when hosting 2027 Africa Cup of Nations...Imagine power blackout during the opening match between Kenya and Cote d'Ivoire or a final match between Morocco and Senegal.!"

Another user said, "This is poetic justice. I love that Kenya Power is an equal opportunity disappointer. But still, you couldn't even get it right even as your boss is on stage lecturing you? Kenyans, we have no country here!"
