Dar es Salaam. Paramount Pictures is taking Hollywood’s wave of video game adaptations to the next level with a blockbuster deal to bring Call of Duty to the big screen.

The studio has partnered with Microsoft-owned gaming giant Activision to develop, produce, and distribute a live-action film based on one of the world’s most successful gaming franchises.

Since its debut in 2003, Call of Duty has become a cultural phenomenon, spawning more than 30 mainline titles and captivating millions of players with its gripping military storylines and first-person shooter action.

While Paramount has yet to reveal plot details, fans are already speculating whether the film will explore the franchise’s interconnected sagas, such as Treyarch’s Black Ops series, which sees the release of Black Ops 7 later this autumn.

Hollywood’s track record with video game films has been patchy, but recent hits like Super Mario Bros, Mortal Kombat, and this year’s Minecraft movie show that game adaptations can dominate the box office.

Paramount is no stranger to the trend, having turned Sonic the Hedgehog into a billion-dollar franchise with sequels and streaming spin-offs.
