Zuchu confirms marriage to Diamond Platnumz

What you need to know:

  • The revelation comes after widespread online rumours suggesting that Diamond had issued Zuchu three talaqs (Islamic divorces), a claim that shocked many fans who were unaware the two had ever formalised their union.

Dar es Salaam. Bongo Flava singer Zuchu has confirmed that she is legally married to fellow music star Diamond Platnumz, putting to rest months of speculation over the nature of their relationship.

The revelation comes after widespread online rumours suggesting that Diamond had issued Zuchu three talaqs (Islamic divorces), a claim that shocked many fans who were unaware the two had ever formalised their union.

Zuchu, whose real name is Zuhura Othman, signalled the confirmation by updating her Instagram profile to read Mrs Nasib, a reference to Diamond’s real name, Nasibu Abdul. The move immediately caught the attention of her 6.8 million followers, with many flocking to the platform to express their reactions.

“Wife! Wifey! Wifey! Wifey!” wrote entrepreneur and influencer Niffer, while another fan commented, “We are so happy today.”

One follower remarked, “Even if it lasted just a week, you were once Nasib’s wife. And his first wife, at that.” Others expressed admiration, with comments such as: “You have a husband and you're proud of him. You go, girl!”

However, not all reactions were positive. One user wrote, “Tanzania is unmatched when it comes to hypocrisy,” reflecting mixed public sentiment surrounding the development.

Speculation about the couple’s marital status intensified on June 1 when Diamond posted a cryptic message on his Instagram account, hinting at a past marriage.

“One of the things I’ve learnt is the maturity to remain silent,” Diamond wrote. “It requires patience and strength, especially when people tarnish your name while you know the truth. It’s not easy, but I thank God for the wisdom to stay quiet… Anyway, I know people have different perceptions of Diamond and marriage, but today I want to tell you that this Diamond Platnumz was once married. One day I’ll explain how it happened.”

The post was widely interpreted as confirmation of a previous marriage—possibly to Zuchu—and further fuelled speculation about a recent separation.

Amid the online buzz, Mwanaspoti contacted Dar es Salaam Regional Sheikh Walid Kawambwa, who confirmed that he had officiated the marriage between the two artists.

“It’s true, I officiated their marriage five months ago,” said Sheikh Walid. “As for whether they’ve divorced, I have no knowledge. If that were the case, Diamond would have informed me.”

He also questioned why some people seemed to prefer assuming the couple were living in sin. “Why do people want others to be fornicating? They are lawfully married.”

Neither Diamond nor Zuchu has issued a formal statement beyond the social media updates.
