Addressing the CCM institutional constitution forum yesterday, the ruling party secretary general, Mr Abdulrahman Kinana said the party conducted 18,879 forums across the country as of yesterday.
Dodoma. President Jakaya Kikwete yesterday called for sobriety among Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) members when debating the Draft Constitution.
Speaking at the opening of the CCM national constitutional forum, President Kikwete urged members of the ruling party to argue constructively and avoid confrontation. “If we do this work effectively, we will end up with a peaceful country. But if we do it poorly…the results will equally be bad,” he cautioned. Mr Kikwete, who also doubles as the CCM national chairman, claimed that ruling party members’ good work would give the nation of a good new Constitution.
“We need to do good work so that we can end up with a Constitution which will bring us together as a nation. This will be a recipe for peace, unity and tranquillity,” he stressed.
The CCM national institutional constitutional forum is made up of its National Executive Committee (NEC) members who yesterday debated the draft onstitution.
Meanwhile, CCM has been able to reach out to more than 2.6 million people who have aired their views on the draft new constitution.

He told the delegates that 2,618,755 people gave their views. He said this number far outpaces 19,333 people who participated in the 117 institutional forums conducted by the Constitution Review Commission.
In the meantime, the saga surrounding the expulsion of eight councillors at Bukoba Municipal Council has become a hard nut to crack for the CCM Central Committee.
The committee has in turn, summoned six party leaders from Kagera Region as well as Bukoba Urban MP, to appear before it today, the CCM ideology and Publicity secretary, Mr Nape Nnauye said here yesterday.
Briefing reporters on how the issue was handled, Mr Nnauye noted that after deliberations during a meeting which ended at 2.30pm yesterday, the Central Committee members could not reach a consensus over the issue. He said the delegates decided to summon the six leaders to get enough information from them which will help them to reach a decision.
He named those who have been summoned as Kagera CCM regional chairperson Costansia Buhiye, regional party secretary, Avelin Mushi and Bukoba mayor Anatoly Amani. Others were Bukoba CCM chairman Yusuph Ngaiza, district secretary Janeth Kayanda and Bukoba Urban MP Khamis Kagasheki who also doubled as minister for Natural Resources and Tourism.
“We hope that they will be able to meet the CC tomorrow morning. After that meeting we will brief you the decision which has been reached with regard to the dismissal of eight councillors,” he said.
Mr Nnauye also said the issue involving the discharge from the party of former Zanzibar minister,, Mansour Yussuf Himid, will be decided by NEC.
