Air Tanzania passengers up by 70 per cent

Mwanza. Improved efficiency in providing services has been cited as a key factor behind the flag carrier Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) rise in passenger numbers from around 4,000 in October 2016 to 24,000 passengers in June 2018.
ATCL director general Ladislaus Matindi said that the increase in passengers using the airline is a result of the government efforts to revitalise the company.
Speaking to stakeholders in Mwanza, Mr Matindi said the success was mostly attributed to execution of the strategic plan aimed at increasing efficiency in the company.
According to him, apart from domestic flights the carrier has also opened international routes flying to Entebbe, Uganda and Bujumbura, Burundi while at the same time there are plans afoot to start flights to Mumbai, India and Guangzhou China.
“I call on Tanzanians to continue supporting the airline in order to enable us grow economically and continue increasing number of planes,” he said.
Currently, ATCL is currently operating four planes which are three Bombardier Q400 and Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
ATCL Public Relations officer Edward Mkwabi said that the airline expects to receive two more planes of the Make Airbus A220-300 by November, but before that also expect to receive a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner in October and Bombardier Q400, which are expected between 2019 and 2020.
He said that in 2020, ATCL will also bring in two planes make CS300 Jetliners.
Magu district commissioner Philemon Sengati representing Mwanza regional Commissioner John Mongella urged the airline to continue improving its services in order to attract more customers.
