What you need to know:

Bishop Maluma  said there are still some people in the society who view people living with disabilities as a burden

It was an emotional service, as thousands gathered at a requiem service to pay last respects to the deceased twins, Maria and Consolata on Wednesday morning. The service was led by Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Njombe, Alfred Maluma.

Bishop Maluma reminded Tanzanians that we are all responsible to take care of people living with disabilities. He said there are still some people in the society who view people living with disabilities as a burden. This was wrong, he said. And it was time to change. He commended the work of Maria Consolata Sisterhood for taking good care of Maria and Consolata up to their point of death.

Bishop Maluma also commended the government for being involved with the twins’ affairs when they were alive, and for continued support and comfort to the bereaved. However, he went forth to remind the government to continue creating conducive learning environments for learners living with disabilities.
